The Limited Criminal History product has explicit boundaries
Geography
ISP calls LCH an Indiana-only record check. It does not add criminal-history information from other states.
Match method
The search is based on name and date of birth, with race, gender and—when needed—Social Security number and place of birth used as additional identifiers.
Participation caveat
The ISP service selector warns that completeness depends on county participation. A “No Records Found” response is an official result for this product, not a guarantee about every possible record source nationwide.
Result statuses
The updated LCH system can return ON FILE, INCONCLUSIVE RESULTS, or NO RECORDS FOUND. An inconclusive result is a cue to consider fingerprint-based resolution.

Recent arrests
The ISP FAQ says the limited service returns misdemeanor and felony arrests that are less than one year old.

Older arrests
For arrests more than one year old, ISP says the service returns those that have a court disposition.

Review the fields
The report can summarize names, aliases, arrest dates, charges and dispositions. Verify that the subject identifiers match before attaching the result to a person.

Escalate when needed
If the request needs the most complete available history or the LCH is inconclusive, use the appropriate fingerprint-based service rather than repeatedly trying name variants and treating them as definitive.

Published state-only LCH pricing
The current Indiana State Police fee page lists a $7 state fee for a Limited Criminal History by mail and a $16.32 total for the online route. The online total includes the state fee plus the service provider’s processing fee. Check the live schedule before a high-volume order because government fees can change.

Indiana’s judiciary explains that criminal-history, arrest and police records are maintained by law-enforcement agencies rather than the courts. ISP is therefore the statewide criminal-history product source.

A court-certified disposition should come from the court record. Do not substitute an ISP LCH printout when the recipient requested a certified court document.

If an employer, licensing body or other authorized requester requires national fingerprint coverage, confirm that requirement before ordering the Indiana-only LCH.

Self-check for Indiana-only history
LCH can be efficient when a name-based Indiana product is accepted, but preserve its county-participation and out-of-state limitations.
Identity-sensitive review
Fingerprint-based Indiana history is a better fit when the task is to resolve whether the state record actually belongs to the subject.
National authorized purpose
Use the national fingerprint service when the requesting organization is authorized and needs multi-jurisdiction coverage. Follow its stated applicant and routing requirements instead of assuming every consumer can obtain the same report.
